Alpine Motor Sports become the first team in Australian Formula 3 history to win every feature race of the season after clinching Race 3 in the final round of the Australian FORMULA 3 Premier Series at Sydney Motorsport Park today.
Driver Tim Macrow won races 2 and 3 to take 47 of the 48 available points for the round, and take his series points total to 296 of the 336 points available.
Macrow led from the front in Race 3 and was never headed, taking the win by 1.8 seconds from 2015 Champion Jon Collins.
“The AIE/Monster Lubricants Dallara was awesome today, the team as per usual did an excellent job, and to make it 3 from 3 again is a just result for the organisation,” said 3-time title winner Macrow.
Alpine’s race win total for the season stands at 17, also a new Australian Formula 3 record.
Macrow started Race 2 earlier in the afternoon from the customary 4th position in the reverse top 4 race.
Working his way up to second by the end of lap 1, he took the lead from Roland Legge on lap 2, and drew out then managed the gap to young gun Cameron Shields to cross the line ahead by 2.7 seconds.
“The weather was pretty warm today, so once we established the lead in race 2 we took it easy and conserved the Kumho’s for the last race.”
Team Principal Dennie Rumble was proud of the team’s achievement.
“It’s been a dream season. To come from our humble beginnings to not only be competitive, not only the series champion, but to be the dominant force in Australian Formula 3 is mind-blowing.”
“A tribute to all the crew that worked on the car this year, especially engineer Nathan, and to Tim who drove the wheels of it.”
“It’s been a massive effort to get this result and we’re over the moon.”
The team now focuses efforts on 2017, looking to expand the team possibly to two cars in defence of their 2016 title.
“We’re on the hunt for drivers and marketing partners to make this bigger and better next year. We’ve got the runs on the board now as a champion team, and we’re looking to expand and go bigger and better in 2017,” said Rumble.
